Age Divisions

Soccer seasons run from August 1st to July 31st, therefore registration systems are built on that calendar season. When moving to the new registration system supported by NDSA and USYS in 2023-2024, certain challenges were presented with the registration system. Everything ran on a child's birth year (therefore the age division) which is necessary for competitive soccer, however all of the programs offered through Dakota United SC are recreational. We ran with it and found a few issues which ended up in multiple registrations, refunds having to be given, etc.

In 2024-2025, you are seeing us use the age division. This may cause a bit of confusion but do not be alarmed. DUSC is not changing the structure of any of our programming as you know it. Fall/spring leagues teams will still be created based on gender, grade, and school. Academy will still be grouped by grades.

When you register, the system will display the appropriate level for your child based on their birth year. As an example, U9 means under 9 therefore 8 years olds, U11 means under 11 therefore 10 year olds. You will then complete grade and school on your registration form for the specific programs you are enrolling in. We move all kids into one age bracket in the end for tecnical purposes only. Players are placed on teams by grade and school. You will know your child is on the correct grade team by the team number...

  • PreK are labeled alphabetically.
  • Kindergarten are 001-099.
  • 1st grade are 100s.
  • 2nd grade are 200s.
  • 3rd grade are 300s.
  • 4th grade are 400s.
  • 5th/6th grade are 500s.

We hope this explains things a bit better. Please email soccer@dakotaunitedsoccer.com if you need further assistance.
